Student Refuses UU Pilkada

Sherr Rinn, Ari Nasrullah | Solidaritas.net – Group of student namely Keluarga Besar Universitas Bung Karno taking an action to refuse the election law. This action taken place in front of their campus, Jalan Diponegoro, on Wednesday (2/10/2014). Masses unfurled a banner demanding a cancellation of election law.

Students also handed out flyers to passing by. It stated that UBK students balked the Election Act through Parliament, and asked the Constitutional Court (MK) to cancel the election law and urged President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono immedieexamining a decree to replace immediately the elections law.

“Decisions that has been made and implemented by the government are basically from the people and affected people’s lives. Therefore, all citizens are entitled to participate to determine the political decisions, ” quoted from a flyer distributed by UBK students.

The action starts at 3 pm afternoon was marred by burning old tires and road blocking, but end up peacefully at 5 pm.
On the same day, hundreds of students in Palu, Central Sulawesi, calling itself the Tadulako Student Alliance take action to reject the elections law which led to clashes with police. A number of students were injured in the clashes and hospitalized.

Meanwhile, students of the University of Indonesia is planning to have a massive action together with civil society coalition. Earlier, on Tuesday (09/30/2014) dozens of students from UI Student Executive Board (BEM) held a demonstrations in front of the Parliament building.
